The Allahabad High Court On Thursday acquitted dentist couple Nupur and Rajesh Talwar in the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case of 2008.
In November 2013, a special CBI court in Ghaziabad had sentenced the Talwars to life imprisonment for the murder of their daughter, Arushi, and domestic help Hemraj and they had appealed against their conviction.
A division bench of the high court, comprising Justices B K Narayana and A K Mishra, on September 7 reserved its judgment on the appeal and fixed October 12 for pronouncing the verdict.
At present, the couple is lodged in Ghaziabad’s Dasna jail.
While Arushi (14) was found dead inside her room in the Talwars’ Noida residence with her throat slit, 45-year-old Hemraj’s body was later recovered from the terrace of the house.
The Uttar Pradesh Police drew flak for shoddy investigation into the case, following which it was transferred to the CBI.
The incident had led to outrage and Bollywood cashed in by producing two movies, Talvar and Rahasya, with gruesome details of the double murder.
