Rayagada: It seems like girl child is still unwanted in our society. An abandoned newborn girl rescued from the railway tracks near Muniguda station in Rayagada district on Monday night, proved it all over again.
According to the sources, some girls passing by the tracks heard cries of the baby and informed one Hastini Nag.
Hastini rescued the baby girl and took her home. “I do not have a baby girl. That is why I am interested to take care of her as my own,” she said.
It is being suspected that the child was born in a nearby hospital and later abandoned on the tracks.
However, no case has been registered in this connection.
In July this year, a newborn girl child was found abandoned on the road at Phuladi, on the outskirts of Balasore.
According to sources, two persons spotted the baby around 10.30 pm and rushed her to Balasore district headquarters hospital. Doctors informed the police about her.
The same month, locals had rescued a three-day-old abandoned baby at Daldali village under Nuapada tehsil in Nuapada district. They found the baby near a pond while on their way to the farmland in the morning and informed ASHAs.
ASHAs and district child line officials got the baby admitted to Nuapada hospital for check-up. The condition of the baby is stable.
