Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a newborn baby girl was found abandoned under a culvert near Nandankanan police station in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
According to sources, a local resident of Raghunathpur area spotted and rescued the infant stuffed inside a sack and abandoned by someone under the culvert on the road.
Someone had covered the newborn baby girl with a sack and threw it under the culvert. The local resident, whose name has not been revealed, informed the police after rescuing the infant from under the culvert.
The baby girl was admitted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. It is learned that the hospital plans to hand over the newborn to an orphanage if the identity of the infant’s parents is not found.
Investigation by the Nandankanan police is in progress and efforts are on to trace the child’s family.
