Bhadrak: A US-based couple on Friday adopted six-year-old Aparajita, who was abandoned by her parents in 2012.
The little girl has had a troubled childhood, having been deprived of love and affection from parents. The six-year-old, however, now has a family which she is too small to understand.
The girl was rescued from a near-death situation in Bhadrak bus terminal on February 18, 2012. According to sources, stray dogs were feeding on her when she came to the notice of Child Welfare Committee members. The day-old Aparajita’s life was saved but she lost a portion of her hand.
She was named ‘Aparajita’ and ‘Batsalya’ care home looked after her.
The couple, Merideth Kayoscode and Math Scoda, is too excited to have her in their life. “We already are blessed with sons and had always wanted a baby girl. Since she needed a family, we decided to adopt her,” said Merideth.
Chairman of Child Welfare Committee Sudarshan Barik said that people in Bhadrak are quite joyous about Aparajita’s adoption. “We have asked the US-based couple to keep in touch and send pictures of the girl every six months,” he added.
