Abhijeet Reveals Why He Stopped Singing For Shah Rukh, Says He’s No Longer Just A Human Being

Mumbai: Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the voice behind Shah Rukh Khan’s romantic songs, recently opened up about the fallout between him and the superstar.

In an interview with ANI, Abhijeet shared that he stopped singing for Shah Rukh when he realised that he was not getting any credit for his work, which he genuinely deserved.

“When self-respect is hurt, you feel like saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ I wasn’t singing for him (Shah Rukh); I was singing for my work. But when I saw that they were acknowledging everyone–like a tea vendor who serves tea on set–but not acknowledging the singer, I felt, ‘Why should I be your voice’?” Abhijeet said.

Asked if Shah Rukh ever tried to reach out to him after he stopped singing for him, Abhijeet replied in the negative and added that he is not even expecting it.

“It’s not that my relationship with SRK is broken, but Shah Rukh is now such a huge star that he’s no longer just a human being. Even he probably doesn’t realise the level he has reached. So why should I expect anything from him? I’m still the same person I was; I am growing in my own way. I’m 5-6 years older than him. He’s over 60 (59 actually), and I’m also in my 60s. There’s no need for anyone to apologise. Both of us have egos. Our birthdays are just a day apart; we are both Scorpios. But I’m the bigger Scorpio. I don’t need him or his support,” said Abhijeet.

The singer lent his voice for many melodious Shah Rukh songs like ‘Woh Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai’, ‘Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha’ to the ‘Chalte Chalte’ title track.

Recently, when Dua Lipa performed on Levitating x ‘Woh Ladki Jo’ mashup, Abhijeet expressed his disappointment over not being credited for his work.

Abhijeet’s son Jay Bhattacharya also took to social media and criticised Dua for not crediting his father and Anu Malik.
