Bhubaneswar: The final of second Hero Super Cup being played at Kalinga Stadium here is turning out to be a star-studded affair. While the tournament, which started on March 15, got a loud shout from the football fans, the cheer grew louder as Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan arrived in the city on Saturday.
Abhishek is the co-owner of Chennaiyin FC, which will face FC Goa in the final.
“I am very happy and proud of the boys. We did not have the ideal season in ISL and to reach the final of Super Cup shows the intent of the team. I am very happy for the team and John Gregory coach, but happiest for fans who stuck with us through everything,” he told media.
For Chennaiyin, who were ISL 2017-18 champions, the 2018-19 campaign turned out to be a disastrous one as they ended the season at the bottom of the table.
Goa had lost the Indian Super League (ISL) 2018-19 title going down to Bengaluru FC, courtesy an extra-time goal.
The two teams have had several face-offs in the past and the ISL 2015 final saw Chennaiyin win 3-2 with two very late goals in a dramatic and feisty match.
The Bollywood actor also appealed to people to come out in good numbers to cast votes in the elections.
