Cuttack: Police on Wednesday arrested the accused in the alleged rape of a six-year old girl at Trisulia in Barang of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Speaking to the media, Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena said that the accused was nabbed from a place near Sadar police limits. “The FIR was lodged last night. We had formed 3 police teams as both the accused and the victim’s family belonged to Jharkhand. One team was sent to Jharkhand, another to other districts in Odisha and a third team carried out a probe in nearby areas,” he said.
The accused used to work as a labourer and driver near a brick kiln at Trisulia where the victim’s parents were working, he added.
Meanwhile, the minor girl, initially admitted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishubhawan), has been shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital here and her condition is stated to be critical.
The incident took place between 3 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday and the matter came to light when her parents took her to hospital. They alleged that a 16-year-old, who hails from Jharkhand, had committed the crime. Police are trying to ascertain whether the accused is an adult or a minor. His identity proof is being examined, sources said.
Earlier this month, six individuals, including a minor, were arrested in the district for allegedly raping a 19-year-old college student multiple times and videographing the act. One among the accused was the college student’s boyfriend.
