Jagatsinghpur: Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amit Padhi, who was posted at Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station, has been suspended following allegations of torturing his minor wife.
According to sources, the ASI, a native of Ratei village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore, married a Class X girl after befriending her on Facebook. However, the girl accused her husband and in-laws of physical and mental abuse, a few months after the wedding in 2024. He then allegedly left his wife at her parental home in Jagatsinghpur.
The girl’s family members alleged that he forcefully married her and later dumped her after subjecting her to physical and mental torture. They lodged a complaint against them in April this year.
Padhi, however, has been absconding since filing of the complaint.
Her family is upset over the delay in action despite serious charges against him. “The SP and IIC are yet to act on our complaint,” the mother choked while speaking to the media.
While police are yet to issue a statement on the matter, sources indicated that a chargesheet will be filed only after his arrest.
