Balangir: A panchayat supply assistant was arrested from Chhattisgarh for allegedly raping and blackmailing a widow at Budula under Agalpur block of Odisha’s Balangir district.
The accused, identified as Girish Chandra Sahu. He was nabbed from a relative’s house at Lakhanpali in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district.
Based on a complaint lodged by the woman, police registered a case and launched a hunt for Sahu who was on the run. Police managed to nab him on Monday, sources said.
It was alleged that the supply assistant lured the woman on the pretext of giving her PDS rice and sexually assaulted her. He had been raping her on several occasions and had even recorded videos of their intimate moments.
The matter came to light after the woman was seen attacking him with slippers at the panchayat office for allegedly circulating her MMS. A video of the woman beating him with slippers went viral on social media platforms. Since then, the accused had been on the run.
Balangir Sadar SDPO PK Sahu said Sahu has been charged with rape and circulating objectionable videos on social media. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
