Puri: Hours after Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb skipped ‘Chherapahanra’ ritual on the Snana Mandap on the occasion of Snana Yatra of the deities of Jagannath Temple, here, the king has issued a clarification.
The Gajapati has clarified that he abstained from the ‘Chherapahanra’ ritual in compliance with the government’s COVID-19 related lockdown guidelines.
As per the lockdown norms, religious functions cannot be attended by more than seven persons. Besides, persons over 65 years of age are barred from venturing out of their houses, the Gajapati said.
Meanwhile, the rituals of ‘Snana Yatra’ continued as per the schedule on the temple premises. This year, the festival is celebrated abiding the COVID-19 guidelines while Section 144 has been clamped in the Pilgrim Town to prevent large congregation of devotees.
About 500 sevayats, who are participating in the rituals, have undergone the coronavirus test.
