Access 3D Images Of Lingaraj & Rajarani Temples In Odisha Capital On Your Mobile

Bhubaneswar: Heritage lovers can access 3D images of the city’s iconic Lingaraj and Rajarani temples on their mobile phones from next year.

This is part of a joint initiative by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar to create digital footprints of national heritage sites.

According to reports, the ASI and NISER will soon carry out drone survey and laser scanning to create the 3D images of the two shrines.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has also given permission to use drones for aerial survey and photography of the monuments.

Professor Subhankar Mishra of NISER said the 3D images of the monuments will play a crucial role in conservation of these heritage sites. Besides they will enable people to know details like area, size and sculptures of the temples on their mobile phones, he added.

Mishra informed that the entire survey work of the two temples will be completed by December this year.

According to ASI officials, the 3D images will help the agency to identify defects or damaged portions of the temples. The images will then be used as reference to repair the structures.
