Puri: One of the miscreants who looted jewellery and cash from a wedding venue in Bhubaneswar was arrested from Baliapanda area of Puri on Tuesday.
The youth, identified as Ritesh Sisodia (20) from Kadia village in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, was caught by a security guard while attempting theft during a marriage event in the seaside town.
Sources said Ritesh and his friend attempted to steal from another wedding venue in Puri on Monday night. A security guard noticed Ritesh moving in a suspicious manner carrying a suitcase.
On being questioned, Ritesh tried to run away but was caught by other guards. They informed the Baliapanda police and a team rushed to the site and arrested the accused. However, his friend managed to escape.
Notably, Ritesh and his friend had gone to a luxury hotel in Bhubaneswar on Sunday posing as guests from the groom’s side. In the crowd, one of the accused took part in a photoshoot with the bride, while the other kept a watch. As the crowd grew bigger, the accused with the bride quietly stole a gift bag with cash and valuables placed by the bride’s mother. Both of them left the venue after stealing the items.
The bride’s family reported the crime to the Maitri Vihar Police. After looking at CCTV footage from the hotel, the police identified the two suspects. While Ritesh was arrested in Puri efforts are on to trace and nab his accomplice.
