Accused In Minor’s Abduction Case Found Hanging At Police Station In Odisha

Nabarangpur: A man, arrested for an alleged abduction of a minor girl, was found hanging inside Dabugaon police station in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Purna Kalar, a resident of Anchala village under Medana panchayat.

According to sources, Puran was detained by police on Monday following allegations that he

had abducted a minor girl from the locality. He had undergone a medical check-up on Tuesday and was scheduled to be produced before a local court on Wednesday. However, he was found hanging inside the toilet of the police station.

Preliminary investigation indicated that he used a piece of cloth, allegedly torn from a bedsheet, to hang himself from the ventilation structure in the toilet. The body has been shifted to the mortuary at Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased staged a protest in front of the police station and blocked the road, offering police money to let them see his body, while questioning his death in custody.
