Acid Attack Accused Nabbed After 19 Years From Odisha’s Bhadrak

Bhadrak: In a major breakthrough in the 2002 acid attack case, police arrested the accused on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Subash Behera of Raipur village under Dhusuri police limits. Subash had been evading arrest for the last 19 years.

In 2002, Subash had thrown acid on the wife of one Bhajagobinda Jena, then his neighbour, following a family dispute.

Soon after Jena had file a case but Behera has escaped by then and had been elusive ever since.

Dhusuri Police had launched a manhunt to nab Subash. On Wednesday, they received a tip-off that Subash returned to his house and they raided the spot to arrest the accused.

A special police team arrested Subash from his house and forwarded him to the court.

Charges under Section 303 and 327 have been slapped against the accused.
