Acid Attack On MKCG Student: Police To Seek Remand Of Accused

Berhampur: The accused in the acid attack on a student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, who also happens to be the husband of the victim, will be produced before the SDJM court on Thursday.

According to sources, the Crime Branch sleuths will appeal to the court to grant remand of the accused, identified as Niranjan Pradhan, for interrogation.

On Wednesday, a three-member team of Berhampur Police with the help of Crime Branch officials arrested Niranjan from Vashi Gaon in Navi Mumbai, where he was working as a delivery boy by changing his identity. Police managed to nab him by tracking his WhatsApp messages and e-mail account.

Niranjan had allegedly thrown acid at his wife Minati Kumari Pradhan, a third-year diploma student in the Medical Laboratory Technology of the college, on November 16 last year.

The incident was reportedly the fallout of a longstanding family feud.
