Bhubaneswar: The state-level security committee meeting of railways chaired by Rajendra Prasad Sharma, the Director General of Police (DGP) on Tuesday decided that action will be initiated against those staging rail roko.
At the crucial meeting, the DGP informed that the rail blockades by different organisations and political parties cause huge inconvenience to passengers and loss to economy. Keeping this in view, it has been decided to register cases against those causing such blockades.
Sharma also stressed the need for coordination among Railway Protection Force (RPF) and state police to identify and arrest the mafia and other gangs involved in stealing coal, railway scraps and other items from moving trains.
The meeting also placed special emphasis on maintaining a crime-free environment in the railway stations across the state and ensuring safety of passengers, especially women and children.
The meeting was attended by Additional Director General of Railways Pranabindu Acharya, Intelligence Director Sunil Kumar Roy, officials of Odisha Police and railways.
