Bhubaneswar: Amid reports about fresh wave of COVID claiming its first victim in Odisha this year, Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Monday urged people to get treatment without delay if symptoms develop.
“Though active cases have increased, infection rate is stable. Of 629 active cases, 12 have been hospitalised. We are following the basic rule of testing, tracking and treatment. Those with symptoms should go for COVID test, follow the necessary home isolation guidelines and seek immediate consultation if condition worsens,” he added.
He further informed that a massive mock drill is being conducted at all hospitals across Odisha to assess preparedness.
According Union health ministry’s April 10 data updated at 8 am, Odisha logged 102 new cases in the last 24 hours while 29 were cured of the infection or discharged.
Meanwhile Sundargarh reported the first COVID death in the last 5 months with a 50-year-old succumbing to the virus at a COVID hospital. The state health department, however, is yet to confirm the death, the TNIE reported.
In the last 24 hours, India logged 5,880 new cases and recorded 14 deaths. A nationwide drill is planned for two days from Monday to review emergency preparedness of both public and private hospitals with XBB1.16 sub-variant causing the surge in infections.
Amid the spike in COVID case, Haryana and Puducherry have made wearing face masks mandatory in public places as a precautionary measure.
