Birmingham: Nobel laureate and activist Malala Yousafzai has announced that now she is a married woman. She took to Twitter and posted the pictures of her nikah ceremony that took place in Birmingham city on Tuesday.
“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead,” Yousafzai tweeted.
The 24-year-old activist gave no further information about her husband apart from the first name. However, several social media users have identified him as the general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s high-performance centre, Asser Malik, from Lahore.
The girls’ education campaigner gained international attention for her personal courage in advocating for girls and women’s rights. She even raised her voice against the Taliban, who were opposed to girls attending schools.
