Bengaluru: Actor Chetan Ahimsa’s Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card has been revoked by the Central government.
US-born Chetan, a Kannada language film actor, was arrested last month in Bengaluru over a tweet which was seen to have hurt religious sentiments.
The 40-year-old actor, who is currently out on bail, had written that “Hindutva is built on lies”.
On Saturday, Chetan tweeted: “Union Home Ministry cancelled my visa to stay in India yesterday (April 14) on Ambedkar Jayanti.”
Chetan, who has acted in about a dozen movies, has been in trouble in the past for his comments.
In February 2022, he was arrested for a tweet against Karnataka High Court Justice Krishna Dixit, who was then hearing the hijab case.
Eight months later, an FIR was lodged against Chetan for ‘derogatory’ remarks about the movie ‘Kantara’. He commented that the cultural existence of tribals mingled with Brahmanism .
