Mumbai: Actor and self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal R Khan, also known as KRK, was detained by the police on Saturday after he allegedly fired shots from his licenced firearm towards a housing society on Lokhandwala Back Road in Andheri West, as reported by TOI.
While nobody was injured in the incident, residents found two bullets and markings on the wall after hearing loud reports. They then informed the Oshiwara police, who launched an investigation into the matter.
Initially, the police could not make any headway in the matter till they tracked the direction from where the shots had come from. That led them to Khan’s bungalow.
KRK, known for his controversial tak
es on various topics, told Mumbai police that he was cleaning his gun and fired shots to check “functionality”, as reported by News18.
He was detained following questioning by a Mumbai Police team, during which he admitted that the firing was done with his licensed gun.
Khan claimed that his intention was not to hurt anyone and he was just cleaning his gun. He apparently fired the gun into a large mangrove forest in front of his house to check the functionality.
He told the police that he had hoped that the bullets would harmlessly “get lost” in the mangrove forest. However, due to the wind when he fired the shot, the bullet travelled a bit further and struck a building in Oshiwara.
The police are verifying Khan’s claims and have seized the weapon.
An official said that such firing, even with a licenced weapon, is illegal. If a person has to check his weapon, s/he needs to go to a designated firing range.
Even if what Khan said is true, he should never have fired into the mangrove forest as it is public property and there could have been people inside.
