Mumbai: Actor Mukul Dev, best known for films such as ‘Son of Sardaar’, ‘R…Rajkumar’ and ‘Jai Ho’, died on Friday after brief illness. He was 54.

Though the exact cause of his death remains unknown, reports indicate that Mukul had been unwell and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He is survived by his brother, Rahul Dev. His last rites will be performed at 5 pm in Delhi on Saturday, the ANI reported.

While a formal statement from his family is awaited, actress Deepshikha Nagpal was among the first to confirm the news with an Instagram Story. She shared a throwback photo with the message, “RIP.”

Later speaking to IANS, Deepshikha expressed disbelief and sorrow over his demise. She described him as “a fantastic human being” and “an amazing actor.”

Mukul began his acting career in 1996 with the TV series ‘Mumkin’ and made his Bollywood debut the same year with ‘Dastak’, starring alongside Sushmita Sen.

His final Instagram post from February featured a video of him piloting a plane above the clouds, set to a karaoke version of Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” from The Dark Side of the Moon. The caption quoted the song’s lyrics: “And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too…. I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.”
