Mumbai: Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has allegedly been cheated of Rs 1.55 crore.
Police said on Friday that three persons – including a film producer — had asked him to invest in an event and film production firm promising good returns, but instead used the money themselves.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the actor’s chartered accountant filed a complaint against the trio in the MIDC police station in Andheri East, reported PTI.
The complaint stated that the three accused were business partners of Oberoi and had asked him to invest money in an event and film production firm, assuring good returns.
The ‘Omkara’ star trusted them and put in Rs 1.55 crore in the project, only to discover later that the trio used his money for themselves.
The actor’s wife was also a partner in the firm, an official said.
An FIR has been registered against the trio under IPC sections 34 (common intention), 409 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating).
