Bhubaneswar: More than three weeks after Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee died during shooting of a television series at Odisha’s Talsari beach, his viscera sample has still not been examined.
Balasore police attributed the delay to Digha Mohana police, saying that the latter was busy with ongoing Assembly election in West Bengal, reported The Times of India.
Days after the actor drowned in the sea, Talsari police registered a case against five senior officials of the TV production company on charges of negligence leading to the actor’s death on March 29, and fabricating a false n
arrative around the incident.
The case was registered after Rahul’s wife, actor Priyanka Sarkar, lodged a complaint at Talsari Marine police station.
“During the post-mortem examination at Digha State General Hospital on March 29, medical officers preserved his viscera samples. However, Digha police are yet to send them for forensic analysis to establish the cause of death,” a Balasore police officer told TOI.
The official further said when Balasore police asked for the report, their Digha counterparts were informed that the samples will be dispatched after the first phase of election, which was held on April 23.
According to the autopsy report, the deceased actor’s lungs were filled with seawater and sand.
The testimony of Rahul’s wife is likely to be recorded soon.
“Summons have been issued to the accused, directing them to appear at Talasari police station on April 24. We have asked Digha Mohana police for all relevant case records,” the Balasore officer added.
