Actress Arrested For Drunk Driving, Assaulting Lady Constable

Mumbai: Actress and model Kavya Thapar was arrested by police for allegedly drunk driving, manhandling and assaulting a female constable from Nirbhaya squad in Juhu.

The incident took place around 1 am on Thursday, near JW Marriott Hotel.

The actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was returning from a party with a male friend in her car, The Indian Express reported.

Police said Kavya, who was under influence of alcohol, drove her car into a parked vehicle.

When the Nirbhaya squad was sent to the spot from Juhu police station, the actress allegedly grabbed the collar of a lady constable and abused her. Caught unawares, she fell on the ground.

Kavya, booked under relevant IPC and Motor Vehicles Act sections, was produced before a magistrate court and remanded to judicial custody. She has been sent to Byculla women’s jail.
