Kolkata: Actress Rupaa Dutta has been arrested on charges of pickpocketing at the Kolkata International Book Fair.

Rupaa, who has acted in multiple television serials in Bengal and Bollywood, was produced in court on Sunday, reported Hindustan Times. But her bail plea was rejected and she has been sent to judicial custody.

Police said Rupaa, who had once accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sending her inappropriate messages, could not give a satisfactory explanation after Rs 65,760 was found from her bag.

She later admitted that she was picking pockets inside the crowded book fair.

It’s not the first time that she had done this, police informed. They found a diary in her bag which listed her accounts of stealing.

Police personnel got suspicious on noticing Rupaa dumping wallets in the dustbin at the fair ground.

A case under section 379/411 of IPC was lodged against the actress on the complaint of a sub-inspector.

Rupaa identifies herself as West Bengal Karni Sena’s state president on her social media accounts.
