Actress Mimi Chakraborty Announces Resignation As Trinamool MP

Kolkata: Expressing unhappiness with the local leadership of Trinamool Congress (TMC), actor-turned-politician Mimi Chakraborty on Thursday announced her resignation as a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP).

The actress had won from Jadavpur constituency in the previous general election in 2019.

According to reports, Mimi handed over her resignation to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. However, this can’t be taken as as her formal resignation as an MP has to submit her resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Mimi had earlier resigned from two parliamentary committees and also stepped down as chairperson of Rogi Kalyan Samitis in two hospitals.

“If you join politics, you are criticised whether you work or not. I spoke with Mamata Banerjee regarding the issues I had. I wanted to tell her about my resignation from a party that gave me an opportunity to go ahead. I had also told her in 2022 about my resignation from the post of an MP. She had rejected it at that time,” Mimi was quoted as saying by TOI.
