Bhubaneswar: Encouraged by Odisha government’s steps to strengthen health care sector, Gautam Adani-led Adani Group has proposed to set up two medical colleges in the state to upgrade medical care facilities at the district level.
The company, which has port and logistics business in the state, plans to set up medical colleges in Bhadrak and Rayagada and the process of identification of land is underway for the purpose in both the districts, according to company sources.
The company had submitted a formal proposal to the Health and Family Welfare department in December, 2022 seeking the state government’s support for setting up the medical colleges, and the response has been quite positive, they said.
In its letter to the state government, the company said it has already initiated preliminary work and survey to establish medical college in Bhadrak and Rayagada. It is intrerested to establish medical college on PPP mode in Bhadrak at the first instance, sources said.
The company is encouraged to note the intention of the state for establishment of medical colleges on PPP mode to upgrade medical care facilities at the district level for the benefit of public as well as to increase medical seats in Odisha.
The entire development is proposed to be done by Adani Foundation under Adani Group CSR activity based on mutually accepted MoU with the state government.
it may be noted that a port is being operated by Adani Group at Dhamra in Bhadrak district, while it plans to build a refinery and a captive power plant in Rayagada.
