Puri: Additional tehsildar of Konark in Puri district sustained
critical injuries after being attacked by timber mafia at Kanpur under
Ramachandi police limits in Puri district on Sunday.
The victim, Dipak Swain, sustained fractures on his right hand and
multiple injuries on his body. He was rushed to a local health centre
and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
The incident took place when Swain had gone to the area to seize
illegal timbers. Around ten persons attacked him with wooden planks
and ransacked his motorcycle.
According to Swain, he lodged a complaint regarding the matter at
Ramachandi police station. However, police tried to compromise the
case, he added.
