Nabarangpur: The Additional SP of Papadahandi police station in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, who was seen in a viral video thrashing journalists with a plastic pipe recently, has been transferred to Cuttack.
Jayakrushna Behera has been transferred and posted as Additional SP (Communication), Cuttack.
According to media reports, a group of journalists had gone to Papadahandi police station to gather news about an elopement case when they were thrashed by Behera. The incident took place on the police station premises on September 15.
A married woman from Bargarh was allegedly in a relationship with a man from Papadahandi and was living with him in his house. Family members of the woman had reached Papadahandi to take the woman with them when the incident took place, the reports said.
The journalists were taking photographs and recording videos when Behera started beating them.
Local journalists had registered their protests before the deputy collector and demanded that the state DGP take strong action against Behera. The journalists also staged a protest in front of the police station.
