Addressed As ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’, Samajwadi Party Leader Objects [Watch]

New Delhi: She may be the wife of Amitabh Bachchan, but how dare someone addresses her as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’?

Even when it came from Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, who was in charge of proceedings on Monday, the actor-politician took offence for being referred to using her husband’s name.

Taking strong objection to being identified with her husband’s name, the Samajwadi Party leader said: “Sir, only Jaya Bachchan would have sufficed.”

The Deputy Chairman explained smilingly that her full name in the records was ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’.

That response hardly satisfied the one-time favourite actress of millions.

“This is something new, that women will be recognised by the name of their husbands. They (women) have no existence or achievements of their own,” Jaya quipped.
