Koraput: The Odisha Vigilance has arrested two government staffers in Koraput district for their alleged involvement in a financial fraud and misappropriation of public funds amounting to over Rs 12.33 lakh.
The accused have been identified as G Shankar, the former Assistant Data Entry Operator (ADEO)-cum-Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) of Banuaguda Gram Panchayat (currently posted as the ADEO of Lamtaput block), and Laikhana Nayak, the Village Mate of Banuaguda gram panchayat.
According to a Vigilance release, the duo allegedly engaged in corrupt practices by falsifying official records and documenting the execution of multiple government-funded development works that were never actually carried out on the ground. The fraudulent activities pertain to four major development projects implemented under Banuaguda gram panchayat within Kundra block.
The anti-corruption wing registered a formal case on October 23, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions for criminal breach of trust, forgery, and forgery for the purpose of cheating. While both individuals were produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance Court in Jeypore, further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
