New Delhi: The Central government has urged all states and union territories to ensure that the age for admission to Grade 1 is 6 years and above from the 2024-25 academic session.
The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, has pointed out in a letter dated February 15 that the above directive is as per provisions in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
Last month, the Ministry of Education released strict guidelines for coaching centres, which now won’t be allowed to enrol students below 16 years of age.
