Adolf Hitler. Surely, the name rings a bell.
Well, a politician named after the Nazi leader of the 20th century recently won a local election in Namibia, but was quick to point out that unlike his namesake — who was a dictator and triggered World War II — he doesn’t want to dominate the world.
Adolf Hitler Uunona – that’s his full name — said that his parents named him without thinking too much about what people might think.
“As a child, I saw it as a totally normal name… Only as a teenager did I understand that this man wanted to conquer the whole world,” he was quoted as saying by German tabloid Bild.
Since Namibia is a former German colony, it’s not uncommon to come across streets, places and people with German names.
