Cuttack: Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Tuesday busted an adulterated spices manufacturing unit and seized adulterated chili and cumin powder weighing more than five quintals in the city.
Sources said the seizure was made following a raid carried out by the enforcement squad of the civic body. The unit located in Malgodown area was producing adulterated red chili powder, cumin powder and other spices for quite some time.
Following the seizure, the manufacturing unit was sealed by the authorities of the civic body.
It may be recalled that an adulterated spice manufacturing unit had been unearthed last month and its owner was arrested. A huge quantity of adulterated bags of spice and raw materials were seized from his possession.
The accused was involved in manufacturing different spices by mixing and grinding small quantities of substandard ingredients with rotten rice, spurious colours and chemicals at his manufacturing unit. He used to sell the spices from his wholesale shop at cheap prices.
