Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old was arrested in Odisha capital on charges of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl on Monday, just a month after being released from a juvenile observation facility.
The accused has been identified as Bablu Mahapatra, who was also detained in 2020 for sexually assaulting a minor girl in a slum and later spent 4 years in a juvenile detention centre in Berhampur.
According to sources, he found the girl playing alone outside her residence and took her to an isolated spot, where he sexually assaulted her. Passers-by, however, were alerted on hearing her screams and caught hold of the accused. He was later handed over to police.
Police said they will submit a chargesheet against him in court promptly and pursue his conviction, the TOI reported.
