Bhubaneswar: While six BJP-ruled states have made Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, which is based on the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s in Kashmir valley, tax-free, people have tweeted tagging Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to exempt the movie from tax in Odisha.

The film, starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Bhasha Sumbli, and Chinmay Mandlekar, has set the cash registers ringing and generated Rs 42.20 crore within four days of its release despite being released in fewer theatres across India.
It has also been winning rave reviews and has emerged as the first choice of moviegoers despite big-budget films, including Radhe Shyam, Batman, and Gangubai Kathiawadi running in cinemas.
In the Lok Sabha, the BJP on Monday demanded that the movie be exempted from the entertainment tax since it reveals the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. The demands to make it free of the levy all over the country is growing with every passing day.
Kangana Ranaut had earlier slammed Bollywood for its silence on the movie. Except for Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Yami Gautam and her husband-filmmaker Aditya Dhar and Madhur Bhandarkar, no big names from Bollywood have extended their support to Vivek Agnihotri`s latest directorial.
