After Atul Subhash Suicide, Delhi Bakery Owner Kills Self Amid Divorce Dispute

New Delhi: In an incident which has similarities with the Atul Subhash suicide case in Bengaluru last month, a bakery owner in Delhi allegedly took his life amid a dispute with his wife.

Puneet Khurana was found hanging in his home at Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area on December 31.

His family has alleged harassment by his wife and in-laws.

According to police, Puneet was “upset with his wife.”

The couple, who got married in 2016, co-owned the For God’s Cake bakery. Woodbox Café, another eatery they owned, shut shop recently.

They had been having differences for the last few years, had initiated divorce proceedings through mutual consent and the matter was in court, ANI reported.

After Puneet was discovered unresponsive, police received a call at 4:18 pm and found Khurana on his bed with a ligature mark on his neck, indicating death by hanging.

The couple, who got married in 2016, co-owned the For God’s Cake bakery. Woodbox Café, another eatery they owned, shut shop recently.

Police said that his wife was the last person Khurana spoke to. Their conversation was about the bakery business. Puneet’s family claimed that his wife recorded the conversation and sent it to her relatives.

Police have seized Puneet’s phone.

“You are calling me at 3 am, can’t you sleep? You disrespected me and my family,” Puneet’s wife said during their last chat on phone as per India Today, to which he replied, “All these things have no meaning right now… Tell me what you want now.”

Puneet’s mother told ANI that he faced mental harassment from his wife, Manika Pahwa.

“She used to keep torturing him. I want justice for him,” his mother said, adding that her son didn’t discuss these issues with them to spare them any worry on the issue.

Puneet’s sister made similar allegations.

“Puneet’s wife, her sister and parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes in which Puneet has mentioned details of harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet’s social media account.”
