After Brief Lull, Heavy Rain To Lash Odisha Again From August 23; Check IMD Forecast

Bhubaneswar: While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for Odisha from August 22, heavy rain may lash some places from the following day under the influence of another cyclonic circulation, which is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around August 25.

According to the midday bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at many places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak and Sundargarh and at a few places in remaining parts of the state till 8.30 am on Monday (August 21) when there is a forecast for light to moderate rain or thundershower at a few places across Odisha.

There are no warnings on these two days.

On August 22, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul and Dhenkanal. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh and Deogarh and at a few places in rest of the state.

The intensity of rain is likely to increase thereafter.

The IMD has sounded yellow warning of heavy rain for one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore on August 23. There is also thunderstorm with lightning warning for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Khurda, Nayagarh,Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal and Deogarh districts. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at many places in North Odisha and at a few places in southern districts of the state.

On August 24, heavy rain may lash one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Sonepur and Boudh. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places across Odisha.

There will be little change in the weather conditions during the next two days, the weather agency added.

Notably, Odisha is still seeing a deficit of 64.9 mm having recorded 736.6 mm rainfall against the normal of 801.5 mm till August 20 this monsoon season. While 2 districts have received excess rainfall, 11 are deficient and the remaining 17 are in the normal category.
