Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought to clear hesitancy over taking the COVID-19 vaccine on his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast on Sunday.

And he succeeded to some extent, too, as some of the villagers got inoculated along with their family members after a chat with the PM.

Modi counselled people on the importance of vaccination and urged them to shed their reservations.

The 43-year-old Rajesh Hirave told PTI that after talking to the Prime Minister on Friday, he and his family members got the vaccine on Saturday.

“I’ve no words to express my happiness for speaking to the PM… I encouraged others also to get the vaccine, and 127 people from the village got vaccinated,” he said.

Sixty-year-old village resident Kishorilal Dhurve was another lucky person Modi connected with. He also got vaccinated after being encouraged by the PM himself.

“My father has got vaccinated and is now encouraging others to get the jab,” PTI quoted Dhurve’s son as saying.

Most of those who interacted with Modi told him that people were hesitant about getting inoculated due to misconceptions being spread through WhatsApp.

The Prime Minister took the example of him and his nearly 100-year-old mother having taken both doses of the vaccine, and urged people to trust science and scientists, rather than believe in rumours.

“The threat of COVID-19 remains and we have to focus on vaccination as well as follow COVID-19 protocols,” the PM said.
