Kendrapada: With the authorities imposing curbs on cracker bursting during Diwali celebrations in Odisha, the police carried out raids and seized a huge quantity of illegal firecrackers worth over lakhs of rupees in Kendrapada district on Thursday.
As per preliminary information, the search operation was conducted by a special team in Nasadipur village under the jurisdiction of Kendrapada town police station.
During raid at a house in the village, firecrackers worth lakhs of rupees hidden in the building were seized.
Sources said one person who had stored the firecrackers has been detained by the police. He is being questioned in connection with the illegal crackers. Further investigation is in progress.
It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Court has issued a directive against the sale of harmful and dangerous firecrackers with barium and a few other chemicals.
Notably, the Commissionerate police Cuttack-Bhubaneswar has issued a helpline to inform about the illegal manufacture of firecrackers ahead of Diwali.
