Balasore: As many as 25 more inmates of a Kanyashram in Odisha’s Balasore district after taking mid-day meal on Saturday.
According to sources, the inmates of Purubai Kanyashram, managed by Gandhi Seva Sangha (GSS), under Soro Municipality in the district complained of vomiting and stomach pain. They have been admitted in Soro hospital and are under treatment.
While the condition of three of them was reportedly serious, one inmate was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) after her condition became critical.
Following the incident, a team of doctors along with ADMO Mrityunjaya Mohapatra, DCPO Swagatika Das Kar, Soro hospital superintendent Satyanarayan Nayak, BDO Karunakar Dhinda and food security officer (FSO) went to the Kanyashram to take stock of the situation on the direction of district collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde.
One of the inmates, belonging to Nilagiri in the district, had complained of uneasiness after all of them took the mid-day meal on Friday. She was admitted to the community health centre (CHC) in Soro. Later, she was shifted to the DHH where she died while undergoing treatment.
The exact cause of illness of the inmates has not been ascertained. District health officer (HO) Dulalsen Jagadeb said they were looking into the matter and cause of illness would be known after the probe.
