After Hours Of Drama, 2 Youth Rescued From High Towers In Odisha

Rayagada/Angul: In separate incidents of two youth climbing up high towers amid high drama, both were successfully rescued in Odisha’s Rayagada and Angul districts on Wednesday.

In an interesting joint rescue operation by police and fire service personnel in Raygada, a youth from Chhattisgarh, who climbed a mobile phone tower in an alleged attempt to end his life, was finally saved after two hours of drama.

Sources said the youth identified as Bhimsen Thakur from the Champa area of neighboring Chhattisgarh climbed up a mobile phone tower behind a Jagannath temple under Chandili police limits in Raygada. Soon he drew attention of the passersby and local residents, who raised an alarm.

On a tip-off, Chandili Police and fire brigade personnel from Kolnara resorted to a joint rescue operation to save his life. However, it took more than two hours for the rescue team members to pursue and convince him not to do anything silly like ending his life. Finally, he was rescued successfully.
Speaking to the media after the rescue operation, officials said the youth will be provided appropriate care and counseling. Once he is okay and willing, he will be sent back home.

In a similar incident, a drunken youth staged high drama atop a high tower in Rangbeda village under Kaniha block in Angul district. He was identified as Srikant Dehuri of the same village

After getting information, local police and fire brigade team rushed to the spot. After nearly four hours of persuasion by the rescue team officials, he finally agreed to be brought down the tower, sources added.
