Bhubaneswar: Odia girl Sohini Mishra, who shot to fame after a stint in a music reality show, is all set to make her mark in Bollywood.
The top six finalist in Indian Idol Season 6 has lent her voice in the upcoming film Kadke Kamaal Ke. The comedy starring Rajpal Yadav and Aryan Adhikari will be released in both India and Nepal. The song is a duet with another singer, Tash M. Other singers, like Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan, have also sung in the film directed by Laxman Singh.
“I have been waiting to sing in Bollywood since a long time and am happy that I have finally got my break. I hope I will get more opportunities after this,” she said.
Sohini has sung in over 60 Odia films but laments the lack of recognition in her state. “People are unaware that I have come a long way since the reality show. I feel people of Odisha are yet to know about the people behind the scenes when it comes to Odia films,” she said.
Sohini began her career in Mumbai in 2012 with jingles and gradually moved to singing for TV shows.
“While recording a jingle at that time, I came across the director who liked my voice. He later asked me to sing for his film and I was overwhelmed,” she said.
She has also sung in a number of other languages, such as Marathi and Malayalam. She feels language can never be a barrier for artistes. “For singers, there is a structured framework when we sing in a regional language. Moreover, a composition is the result of teamwork, so the process becomes easy,” she said.
She is presently working on forming her own fusion band. “I have a lot of shows lined up in London and USA and I am looking forward to performing beyond the borders,” she said.
