Hyderabad: India, smarting from a devastating 28-run defeat in the series-opener against England, were dealt a couple of body blows on Monday.
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, two of the team’s top performers in the first match of the series, have been ruled out of the second Test due to injuries sustained in the Hyderabad contest.
According to a BCCI press release, Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury while Rahul complained of pain in his right quadriceps.
The selection committee has added batsman Sarfaraz Khan, left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar and spinning allrounder Washington Sundar to the squad for the second Test to be played in Visakhapatnam from February 2.
Stylish middle-order batter Rahul was India’s top run-getter in the opening Test, with scores of 86 and 22. Allrounder Jadeja top-scored with 87 in the first innings and also took 5 wickets in the match.
