After Khalistani Terrorist’s Threat, India To Seek Enhanced Security For Air India Flights

New Delhi: Following Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s threat, India will raise the issue with Canadian authorities and seek enhanced security for Air India flights, reported Hindustan Times.

Canadian citizen Pannun, founder of secessionist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), recently warned Sikhs through a video message not to fly Air India on November 19 because there will be a ‘global blockade’ of the Indian carrier and their lives will be in danger.

“We shall take up the threat against Air India flights originating from and terminating in Canada, with the concerned Canadian authorities,” India’s High Commissioner to Ottawa Sanjay Kumar Verma told HT.

“We have studied the contents of the video, which is in clear violation of Chicago Convention, which lays out a framework for international civil aviation operations. Canada and India, among many other nations, are Parties to the Convention,” said Verma.

Verma also said that bilateral civil aviation agreement between India and Canada has provisions to tackle such threats.

Air India operates several direct flights between Canadian cities like Toronto and Vancouver, and New Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar etc.
