Nuapada: Panic spread in Odisha’s Nuapada on Saturday amid reports that a leopard has killed a woman in Siliaribahara village under Sadar range in the district.
According to sources, a woman had gone to the forest on Friday, but did not return. It was claimed that she was dragged into the deep forest by a leopard.
Some villagers claimed to have spotted her mutilated body parts in different places in the forest. This incident has raised fear among the villagers.
On being informed, forest officials reached the village and started an investigation into the incident.
The incident came close on the heels of the killing of a minor boy by leopard in the district recently.
Dambaru Majhi, the 7-year-old son of Human Majhi of Goudhaspada in Katingpani village under Dharambandha police station in the district was playing in front of his house in the evening.
A leopard came to the spot, grabbed Dambaru in its mouth and took him away into the forest close to the village. Some villagers, who saw the incident, raised a hue and cry. But the wild cat vanished into the forest.
While Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat expressed concern over killing of the boy by a leopard, the Forest department deployed a special squad to trace the big cat.
