New Delhi: Israel has killed another top Hezbollah figure, Nabil Kaouk, who was seen as a potential successor to Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah who was killed in an airstrike in Lebanon’s Beirut on Friday.
Hezbollah has not officially confirmed the killing of Kaouk as yet. However, his supporters have reportedly begun mourning his demise in a targeted Israeli airstrike.
According to reports, Israel has continued with its offensive targeting various Hezbollah sites, describing them as “terror targets.” A sustained fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border continued overnight. Lebanon fired several projectiles into the West Bank following Israeli airstrikes.
In the escalating tension, the Israeli navy intercepted a projectile approaching its Red Sea shores. Eight similar projectiles landed in open areas, news reports based on Israeli military sources said.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed that Nasrallah’s death “will not go unavenged,” raising concerns about the Lebanon-Israel conflict growing into a broader regional conflict.
Since the outbreak of violence between Lebanon and Israel, 700 individuals have been killed and approximately 118,000 displaced. The airstrike on Friday resulted in 11 deaths and 108 injuries in Beirut.
