After New Delhi Stampede, Govt Takes AI Route To Tackle Crowd At 60 High-Traffic Railway Stations

New Delhi: After the New Delhi stampede, the Centre decided to build permanent holding zones to handle the extra rush of passengers at 60 high-traffic railway stations and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for crowd and crisis management, reported India Today quoting sources.

The report stated that the local officials would receive training in situational awareness and crisis management. For directional assistance, arrows and separators will be created for helping passengers to locate the way to the designated holding areas.

Sources said the use of technology, including AI, will be used to monitor crowd movement. As many as 35 stations connected to Prayagraj will be monitored by the central war room, sources told India Today.

Cameras will monitor people sitting on foot over bridges and staircase landing areas. At least 200 CCTVs have been installed at the New Delhi railway station.

The report also claimed that the Railways will run a special campaign to identify the problems related to overcrowding and will take feedback from passengers, coolies and shopkeepers.

Meanwhile, a high-level committee has been formed by the Railway Ministry to investigate the stampede at the New Delhi Railway station on Sunday. The committee has begun examining CCTV footage and other documents.

In the wake of the stampede, no counter sale of platform tickets will be available at the New Delhi station till February 26. But platform tickets are being sold at automatic vending machines installed on the station premises.
