Bhubaneswar: It was a sunny morning in Odisha’s capital on Monday after nine days of heavy rainfall and overcast skies due to back-to-back formations of low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal.
According to IMD’s regional centre, rainfall has stopped in Bhubaneswar. However, wind speed has increased to 25 to 30 km per hour.
The low-pressure area that intensified into a depression on Sunday is still active over north interior Odisha, adjoining north Chhattisgarh and south Jharkhand. The system is moving west-northwest at a speed of 34 km per hour. It is centered about 30 km from Jharsuguda in the north-northwest direction, the Met department added.
The intensity of rain has decreased significantly as the system is moving towards Chhattisgarh and is likely to maintain its speed for the next 12 hours.
The maximum average rainfall was recorded at 118.5 mm in Jagatsinghpur district, which is 1,618 per cent more than the normal rainfall of 6.9 mm.
