Puri: With a few hours left for the Nagarjuna Besha of the sibling deities, the Puri administration on Thursday clamped prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC to avoid a large congregation of devotees.

Talking to the media, Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said the prohibitory orders will remain in force from Marichikota Chhak and around the 12th-century temple to Dolamandap Sahi from 2 am.

“All possible steps have been taken to ensure that the rituals of the Lords are performed smoothly while giving topmost priority to the health of all citizens and preventing overcrowding in compliance with the COVID-19 protocol,” he said.

To maintain law and order, 25 platoons of force have been deployed while two officers in the rank of Additional SP, 7 DSPs 19 Sub-Inspectors and 11 Assistant Sub-Inspectors will oversee the security, he said.

“Apart from this, all entry points of Puri town has been sealed to restrict the entry of the outsiders,” he added.
